You’ll Survive If You Try
1. Interesting Aspects of the Class
  • The content in this class is pretty interesting because it isn’t anything we’ve learned before or have really gone in depth about. You’re probably never going to be bored with most of the information you learn, its significant for obvious reasons, which make most of it interesting.
  • Salz is a great human being and teacher. She’s probably one of the main selling points of the class.
2.There’s not much to dislike about the class, but…
  • You get homework, but it's manageable.
  • You need to read the entire textbook at home for homework. So if you don’t read, there isn’t much in class to supplement the reading, considering all assignments are based off the reading.
3. Suggestions to improve the class?
  • Modern history (WWI, WWII, Russian Revolution) needs to be drilled and killed a little harder considering they make up a great deal of Period 4.
  • Maybe spending less time on assignments like the Congress of Vienna simulation (which at first was confusing) would make time for modern history.
  • Learning about communism was fun for a little bit, but it got boring when we got to communism in the Soviet Union.
4. Aditi’s Declassified School Survival Guide for AP Euro Kids

  • Read all the chapters of the textbook. You can’t afford not to know the content (don’t be scared just because the textbook is thick).
  • What you do in class may get you a three, but if you want a higher score on the exam you’re going to have to put in work on your own time.
  • Invest in a Princeton Review Book. It will make the reviewing process easier,
  • Do the Period Reviews ahead of time to prep for the exam.
    • Jason Ho found this website and shared it with our class. It’s pretty good at giving you the key people/ themes/ events of each period.
  • WARNING: Period 4 isn’t going to be a fun time. It was a horrific experience.
  • Don’t take the class if you can’t time manage, can’t think critically, or finesse in your writing.
  • Goodluck!!!

Hi aditi! I agreed with many of your points in regards to spending more time on the fourth period along with getting a review book for the class. I ended up just borrowing mine from the library which worked out really well too. One point I do have to disagree with is your last point. You should definitely take the class if you want to improve your time management, critical thinking and writing skills! The point of taking these ap classes is to challenge yourself as a student, because you are not just born with these skills, you have to put yourself into tough situations in order to really grow. Ps. Salz really is a great human being and teacher haha.
